Nordic Summer Training

Aspen Devo Summer Training Group [U16 & U14 & U12] 

June 15th - August 12th, 2020
Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:00pm
$325 for the summer season

This year the devo summer training group is based out of Carbondale. This program bridges Bill Koch Youth Ski League and National Comp. We encourage athletes who are looking for a full summer of training to join this program. This program is open to U16, U14, and U12 athletes, athletes born in 2003-2010. It is designed for athletes of all ability levels. Skiers will continue to focus on fundamentals and fun. Dryland activities will be geared towards cross country skiing but are appropriate for any child wishing to increase athleticism. Activities will include trail running, core and agility, roller skiing, games (appropriate to social distancing) ski walking, rock hopping and laughing. *Minimum group size of 8, with a maximum of 15.
 
Location: Carbondale Middle School Parking Lot, 451 S Third St, Carbondale, CO  81623
Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a water bottle and holder with a snack at every practice. Athletes will be assigned a pair of skate roller skis for the season, but athletes will need their own boots, helmets, high visibility top, and gloves.

Classic Rollerski - Bastige of Rio Grande!
June 21st 9:00-1:00 
  • Double Pole roller ski down valley (intro to roller skiing). Warm up on Rio Grande, then make our way down to Emma. Athletes will stop for lunch on the ski and work on balance and technique drills as they conquer the bike path. *Minimum group size of 6 with a maximum of 18.
  • Location: Drop off at Woody Creek, just down valley from the Woody Creek Tavern and pick up at Hooks Bridge in Emma.
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a water bottle and holder with a snack, backpack with lunch, extra water and sunscreen. Athletes will be assigned a pair of roller skis for the session, but athletes will need their own boots, poles, helmets, high visibility top, and gloves.
 

Alpe du Highlands - Ski walking
June 28th 9:00-1:00
  • Hike up Highlands from AVSC - hopefully to the top of the Bowl. Using shorter classic poles to mimic classic skiing. We will stop for lunch part way up the mountain and talk about goals.
  • Location: Drop off and pick up at AVSC Club House.
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a day pack with a water bottle, with a snack, lunch. Classic ski poles if they have them.

Bells Multi-Sport - Classic Rollerski + Bike
July 12th 9:00-1:00
  • Classic roller ski from AVSC to Marron Bells, then transition onto bikes and return to the club. A coach will drive athletes’ bikes and backpacks with lunches up to Marron Bells and then return with roller skiing equipment. 
  • Location: Drop off and pick up at AVSC Club House.
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a water bottle and holder with a snack, backpack with lunch, extra water and sunscreen. Athletes will be assigned a pair of roller skis for the session, but will need their own boots, poles, helmets, high visibility top, and gloves. Athletes will need to bring a bike to get back down.

Tundra point to point - Trail running/Ski walking
July 26th 9:00-1:00 
  • Lost Man hiking adventure. Start at upper lost man and hike up to  , drop off the back side and head to Lost Man Lake. We’ll talk about orienteering, trail use/etiquette and leave no trace over lunch at the lake before trail run/ hiking out to lower Lost Man
  • Location: Drop off on HW 82 at upper Lost Man trailhead, pick up at lower Lost Man trailhead.
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a day pack with a water bottle, with a snack, lunch.

Snowmass Multi-Sport - Classic Rollerski + MTB
August 2nd 9:00-1:00
  • Roller ski from the intercept lot to Snowmass Village, have lunch on the grass as we transition onto the mountain bikes, then ride rim trail (and Seven Star if there is time) as we work our way back to the intercept lot.
  • Location: Pick up and drop off at the intercept lot.
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a water bottle and holder with a snack, backpack with lunch, extra water and sunscreen. Athletes will be assigned a pair of roller skis for the session, but athletes will need their own boots, poles, helmets, high visibility top, and gloves. Athletes will need to bring a MTB, with a complete flat kit for the second half of the day.

Peak Bagging Season Ender - Ski walking/hiking!
August 16th 8:00-2:30
  • Hike Sopris... Meet at Dinkle Lake trail head and head for the summit. Work on pacing and traveling as a group. Summit lunch and photos before heading back down. This is a big day, appropriate for the culmination of the summer.
  • Location: Pick up and drop off at Dinkle Lake trailhead
  • Equipment: All athletes must have a mask or buff, appropriate clothes, a day pack with a water bottle, with a snack, lunch.

Refund Policy Full refunds are permitted up to 5 days prior to the program start date. All refunds are subject to a $25 processing fee. Athletes will be refunded 100%, with no processing fee, if we are unable to run programs due to COVID-19.
