Mountain Biking

AVSC Mountain Biking

Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club is proud to offer year-round programming for the greater Roaring Fork Valley. Come ride with our coaches who will teach techniques and tactics, while minimizing risk, to everyone from beginners through young expert riders.  We will explore local Roaring Fork Valley trails, whether it’s at the Carbondale or Basalt Bike Parks or multiple lift access trails including "Valhalla" trail at Snowmass, which requires a summer lift pass. Rides include Sky Mountain Park, Smuggler Mountain, Rim Trail, and many more. Devo Mountain Biking

Pre-requisites: 9 years old and up. Must know how to use gears and have ridden off road before. Helmets are mandatory. Please bring plenty of water, snacks,  sun screen, sun glasses, athletic wear, close toed shoes, an extra tire tube the same size as your bike tires, and a positive attitude.

New for this season, we are reorganizing our beginner and intermediate mountain bike groups.  We will be offering a Devo 1 and Devo 2 level group; this is an exciting change working towards an effective pipeline of mountain bike skills.  We will be working on everything from basic bike maintenance to more advanced riding technique and trail etiquette.
Aspen groups (both Devo 1 and Devo 2) will meet at the AVSC clubhouse ready to ride at 9am, will split up into the two groups, and will meet back at the clubhouse by noon.

Carbondale groups (new this summer!) will meet at North Face Park (in the dirt parking lot behind the tennis courts) ready to ride at 9am, will split up into the two groups, and will meet back at North Face Park by noon.
Devo 1 will be the starting off point in our program, this is where the newest of riders will fit in best.  We will cover basic bike maintenance, braking, shifting, turning, and balance in this group. The group will spend the better part of the first day off the bike learning about how a bike works and how to keep it working all summer long, we will then spend time working on brake control and shifting.  On day two, we will go on a nice ride and incorporate all of what we learned on day one.  Day three will be a slightly larger ride where we'll try to master all of the lessons of the week. This group is designed to be a jumping off point, giving your athlete the tools needed to move into Devo 2. Your coach will let you know when your athlete is ready for that step.
Devo 2 is the next step in our progression, we will spend less time talking about the basic details of bike maintenance and focus more on technique, trail etiquette, and ride endurance.  This group will see a more diverse trail selection, more difficult rides at a higher pace.  We will be working towards making the step into our team mountain bike program.
