Overview

AVSC offers programs for skiers of all abilities, from the first timers to experienced skiers looking to train and race at a competitive level. Our development team is designed to get new skiers up to par and help skiers that are less interested in competition improve their technique and achieve their personal goals. Our competition team is designed for more experienced athletes with who wish to challenge themselves with skiing and more intense training. The comp team is divided into two subgroups, the local comp team, which participates solely in the CHSAA circuit, and the national comp team. National team athletes will participate in Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) races in hopes of qualifying for Junior National Championships, they will also be able to compete in the CHSAA League to qualify and compete in Colorado State Championships. This program is designed for motivated athletes who wish to enhance their current racing ability and are considering skiing at a collegiate or elite level in their future.

Feel free to speak with a coach in regards to which program is best suited for you or your athlete!
**Note: In the past athletes with no XC experience but with downhill ski, hockey, or similar skills have joined this program with very good success

Base Camp Programs are fun learn-to-ski cross-country skiing programs geared towards the younger skier with little or no previous experience. In general  the emphasis will be on learning the basics of classic technique. Skill development will be aquired through a variety of games and drills. Our base camp programs are geared for grade levels 1st-4th.

All Nordic programs will meet at the AVSC Clubhouse in Aspen, with the exception of our down valley program which meets at the Spring Gulch trails near Carbondale. The AVSC clubhouse provides athletes with lockers and storage for skis and clothing through the season.

EQUIPMENT

A race suit and warm-ups are included in the cost of the both the Devo and Comp programs. The best opportunity to purchase or rent Nordic equipment at discounted prices will be at the Nordic Equipment Night at AVSC in mid-September. Visit our website for equipment recommendations and options.

Youth Nordic equipment is difficult to find once the season starts. The Ute Mountaineer and Aspen Cross-Country Center are your best sources for equipment. The ski swaps are hit or miss but do not usually offer a good selection of youth Nordic equipment. The AVSC Nordic Equipment Night in the mid-September is your best opportunity to obtain equipment. Please see our Equipment Guide for help with selecting equipment based on age and program. Also see Season Rental Options.
