It was a great weekend for the AVSC home team at the Wilder Dwight Memorial Super-G races on Aspen Mountain this past Sunday and Monday, January 17-18. AVSC skiers Danielle Brownell-Patty, Julia Mueller-Ristine and Devon Cardamone each won a race and AVSC had 11 skiers crack the top-ten in four races.

Danielle Brownell-Patty flew down the hill in Sunday's women's race to win with a time of 37.49. "Danni skied great," said AVSC Age Class Coach Gene Bridgewater. "She was technically sound and carried a lot of speed on the flats which made the difference." Teammate Julia Mueller-Ristine skied a solid run for an eighth place result.

Travis Lundin just missed out on the win on Sunday when he fell on the Strawpile section of the course and slid on his hip "for about 30 meters," said Bridgewater. Lundin had an amazing athletic recovery to right himself and finish the course in second place. "He was moving. If he hadn't slid he would have won it all," said Bridgewater. Colby Lane finished fifth with some fast skiing of his own and Brannen Haderle debuted in the top-ten with a tenth place result. "Brannen's skiing at a much higher level now and it's starting to show," said Bridgewater. Two 13 year-old first-year J3 skiers, Andrew Hancock and Benjamin Throm rounded out the top-15 in 14th and 15th respectively.

Julia Mueller-Ristine had a breakout run on Monday to win the women's race. "It was a technical course and she skied it to perfection," said Bridgewater. "She stayed on the line we talked about and it made the difference." Teammate Ilona Schwarz also broke the top-ten with a ninth place result. "Ilona didn't get tripped up by the course," said Bridgewater. "She set up where she needed to and skied a great line." Keile Kropf finished in 15th place for the Club.

The AVSC men attacked Monday's course to finish first, second and fourth. Devon Cardamone bested the field to win by 3/4s of a second. "He slayed the course today," said Bridgewater. "Devon diced up his line and did a great job out there." Colby Lane's preparation during course inspection paid off as he quickly navigated the technical turns for second place. Travis Lundin stepped up for fourth place and "showed again how well he's been skiing lately," remarked Bridgewater. Brannen Haderle demonstrated that his prior day tenth place result was no fluke by taking ninth on Monday. "All of them have put themselves in a great position to qualify for Junior Olympics," said Bridgewater. AVSC's Henry Woodrow had a solid 18th place finish as a first-year J3 racer.
