January 14, 2009

AVSC is pleased to announce that Molly Wilson is the first recipient of the Wallace Briggs Westfeldt Scholarship. The scholarship was created in honor of AVSC Snowboarder Wallace Westfeldt who passed away last season.

"Wallace was a dedicated snowboarder who was also deeply committed to both athletic excellence and academic study," said AVSC Snowboard Director Miah Wheeler. "He embodied the Club's core values of commitment, teamwork and integrity and Molly exhibits all of those qualities as well. Her leadership on the Snowboard Team is invaluable." Wilson is a standout AVSC snowboarder who was recently named to the USASA PacSun Team, an elite group of junior amateur snowboarders.

In a personal letter to Molly, Wallace's dad Weems Westfeldt wrote, "We are very pleased and proud that you have been awarded this scholarship. All we ask is that you remember and honor in your heart and in your own way, where this came from. Our wish for you is that your own strong spirit and values continue to illuminate your path forward. Live each day fully and always ride with a smile on your face."

The Club is also pleased to announce that the recent benefit screenings of "The Ripple Effect" at the Wheeler Opera House filled the house to capacity and raised over $4,300 for the Wallace Westfeldt Memorial Scholarship Fund. AVSC would like to thank Aspen Skiing Company for producing the film and hosting the benefit as well as each and every attendee at the screening. The generosity in this community will ensure that Wallace's legacy lives on at the Club.
