< Back AVSC ALPINE PROGRAMS

The AVSC Alpine programs are designed to provide athletes of all skill levels an opportunity to pursue their goals in ski racing built around the following objectives:

  • Provide the opportunity for young athletes to have fun, be with their friends, and enjoy learning to become better skiers while ski racing.

  • Provide a program focused on simplifying, developing and enhancing fundamental and advanced skills that will prepare athletes to progress to higher levels in the sport if they so chose.

  • Provide a program that gives every young athlete the opportunity to be their best, progress individually while working and improving together as a team.

  • To meet the needs of every aspiring ski racing athlete in the Roaring Fork Valley from 1st year J5 weekend skiers to our full time year round J1 and J2 athletes striving to compete at the college and National Team levels.

  • To take a holistic approach; look at the big picture as well as the fine details of conditioning, diet, equipment, technology, and different learning styles of athletes to bring out their best.

  • Challenge young athletes at the appropriate time and in the proper environment to provide athletes the opportunity to build confidence through periodic successes.

  • To assist parents in teaching athletes the life skills that will impact them for their entire life both in and out of sports.

The knowledge and experience shared by our staff consists of several decades of coaching at all levels from National Team to experienced Age Class coaches respected throughout Rocky Mountain Division. AVSC has a very proud history of producing some of the best ski racers in US history including National and International champions. We are determined to continue this rich heritage.

  • Alpine Summer Conditioning Training Register Now!
The Summer Conditioning Training is available to all athletes J3 and older. We will offer 5 days of conditioning training (Monday-Friday) starting June 7th-August 17th. The training sessions will include endurance training, agility, motor skills, flexibility, balance, strength, plyometrics, coordination skills and much more. The athletes will train mostly in two training groups, a J1/2's group and a J3 group.
So far we are looking at 2-3 endurance sessions weekly with all athletes in the morning (9am-12am), and 3-5 weekly strength and conditioning sessions each 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours in the afternoon split up in groups.(Session 1: 1.30pm-3pm; Session 2: 3pm-5pm).

An Exercise Test will be optional to provide data about their Lactate Threshold, VO2max, Body Composition, HR, Oxygen Saturation, etc. We are using the same testing protocoll as the US SKI Team is currently using to write individual training plans for each athlete. The testing will take place with Riggs Klika, Ph.D. and Katharina Golik, MS at the Aspen Club and Spa between May 26th-June 6th.

The costs for the whole summer conditioning program are $500 plus an additional $100 for testing. PLEASE NOTE: The testing is not included with the online enrollment and must be paid separately to the coach. If you have any questions or thoughts, please contact Katharina at katharina.golikATgmail.com or kgolikATteamavsc.org (replace the AT with @) or give her a call 720-841-8105.

Alpine La Parva Chile Camp - 1st Deposit Only Register Now!

This is only the first deposit for this trip - the remaining trip cost ($2400) must be paid prior to departure on this trip. The Chile project will be in La Parva, Chile and is for J3 and older athletes that do not attend Mt. Hood. The camp dates are July 29th depart and return August 14th. If there are 5-6 athletes that want to do SL the week before with Kent, Jeff will set this up. We stay in slope side apartments and have a cook that serves all of our meals. This camp will be approximately $3250 (Jeff is still working on budget) and includes lodging, lifts, meals in La Parva, transportation while in Chile, beach trip, and possibly a trip to Santiago if the weather dictates. It does not include airfare, incidentals, or snacks.

Airfare can be $750 - $1,100 and Jeff will work with Winter Park Travel to get a group price with 10 or more flying out of Denver. Jeff understands that there will be others flying from other cities and if you let him know then he can work that into the group. This camp will focus on GS and SG with GS every day, (even on SG days) and SG the second week. We will start off with basic skiing, balance and stance drills, moving into GS drill courses and then working our way up to full length GS and into SG. We will usually take the second weekend off to travel to the beach towns of Val Paraiso and Vine del Mar which are rich in history and offer a great cultural experience for all. The first week we will ski both mornings and afternoons. The second week we will run a full length SG, 5-6 runs in the early morning, followed by a GS session where we will get 5-6 runs starting at 10:30 am that will take us up to lunch. In the afternoons the athletes will be able to rest, work on skis and do dryland recovery. Any questions on this please contact Jeff Kai via email.
