AVSC's Torin Yater-Wallace broke through the ranks of talented young skiers to win the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Halfpipe event at Mount Snow in Vermont on Monday, February 8th. The Free Flow Tour was designed to showcase "Tomorrow's Superstars" with the winner getting an automatic invite to compete on the Dew Tour next season. Yater-Wallace will make that move and go head-to-head against the giants of the freestyle/ freeski world including Simon Dumont, Jossi Wells, Peter Olenick and fellow AVSC teammate Walter Wood.

Yater-Wallace saved his best for last with a second run that included a cork 540 grabbed mute, an alley-oop flatspin 540 and a rightside 720. AVSC Pipe and Park Coach Elana Chase came away impressed. "Torin was the youngest competitor out there and the judges were blown away by his level of skiing. For a fourteen year-old, he's a rock-solid competitor. His Vail rival Patrick Baskins came down ahead and posted an 89 score out of a possible 100 points but I know Torin had a chance to best it. " According to Chase the conditions in Vermont upped the difficulty of the course but presented no real obstacle to Yater-Wallace. "The cold didn't slow him down at all. He boosted his second run and stomped all his tricks when he needed to." Yater-Wallace was excited about the final outcome. ""This is amazing. It feels great to put down a run that I was super happy about," he said. "I got a high score, but I was nervous the whole time I was down at the bottom that someone was going to beat me. I'm thrilled about winning." The prize was an invite to the Dew Tour and according to Chase, "a very heavy trophy."
