Saturday, January 17th

AVSC Alpine kicks off the Wilder Dwight Memorial Super-G Junior Olympics Qualifiers for J3 skiers (ages 13-14) on Racer's Edge on the Tiehack side of Buttermilk Mountain.  AVSC's J3 racers including Bobby Moyer, Devon Cardamone and Julia Mueller Ristine will defend their home turf against up to 100 skiers from the Rocky Mountain Division.  Top results will move these racers that much closer to a trip to the Junior Olympics in Vail. Tentative start time is at 10:00 a.m.

AVSC Nordic continues their weekend with the USSA SuperTour Owl Creek Chase 21k race starting at the Snowmass Cross Country Center at 11:00 a.m. This event is an Olympic qualifier, part of the FIS Marathon Cup and the Colorado Cup.  Keep your eye on hometown racer Scott Lacy, recently named to the U.S. Junior Scandinavia Cup team.  Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior racers will have their own 10k freestyle race staring at the Aspen Cross Country Center at 8:30 a.m.

The AVSC Freestyle team is set to bump it up at the Aspen Valley Moguls on Saturday morning at Aspen Highlands starting at 10:00 a.m.  Top freestyle skiers will compete in Open Moguls on the USSA-spec moguls course on Thunderbowl with awards to follow at the AVSC Clubhouse.  The event is a Junior Olympic Qualifier and U.S. National Qualifier as well. Keep your eye on J1 skier Kyle Lusk, J3 skier Colby Lee and J3 skier Simone Augspurger for the ladies.

Nordic skiing continues in the evening with the popular Wagner Park Sprint races in downtown Aspen.  Starting at 5:30 p.m. 16 of the fastest men and women will compete head-to-head for cash prizes in a single elimination tournament.  Racers will be going all out across 80 meters in Wagner Park.  There will be a DJ, bonfire and hot refreshments for spectators at the event.
