BASE CAMP PROGRAM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What equipment and clothing does my child need to bring?
1. Helmet and Goggles: A properly fitted ski helmet is required for all programs except Nordic ski programs. Sunglasses or ski goggles are a must (goggles are preferred). Please remember that weather can change quickly in the mountains. Warm, sunny weather can easily change to cold, snowy weather by the end of the day. Ski helmets and ski goggles are available at local ski shops.
2. Ski Gloves or Ski Mittens: Participants need to bring insulated, waterproof ski gloves or mittens with them suitable for cold weather. No knit gloves or mittens please! 3. Snow Jacket and Pants: Every AVSC participant should bring a warm, waterproof, insulated jacket and ski pants . Layering clothes underneath the jacket and pants including long underwear to keep warm is highly recommended. Cotton clothing is not recommended.
4. Valid Ski Pass: Participants must have a valid Aspen Skiing Company ski pass to participate - click the link for more details.
5. Properly fitted Ski or Snowboard Boots: Make sure your child's ski or snowboard boots fit properly before the first day of class. Consult a local equipment shop if you have any questions.
6. Winter Socks: Kids should wear ski socks or sport socks that are not made of cotton.
7. Sun Protection: Don't forget to bring sunscreen and lip balm. Even though it's wintertime, the sun is still very intense and reflects off the snow.
Don't forget your skis and poles or snowboard!
AVSC Hot Tip! Neck gators are the key to keeping warm in cold or inclement weather. They cover the mouth to keep kids warm and free of frostbite.
What about Lunch? Only Aspenauts have their lunch included. All other Base Camp participants should bring at least $10 in lunch money each program day.
